Students Take Over At Board Meeting, City Hall And District Schools
Freshman sports is important
to the overall development of students and should not be the victim of
budget cuts, according to the Board of Education at a recent mock
school board meeting, part of the 30th annual Student Government Day.
Approximately 22 seniors from Ayala, Boys Republic, Buena Vista, Chino,
Chino Hills, and Don Lugo High Schools debated issues with relevancy to
the current budget situation as well as issues that concern them at

Chino Valley school earns Title 1 award
The Chino Valley Unified
School recently received the Title 1 Academic Achievement Award for
demonstrating that it is making significant progress toward student
proficiency on state academic standards. The awards are given to
schools that receive federal Title 1 funds, which help provide
education resources to socioeconomically disadvantaged students. Title
I is one of the programs under the federal No Child Left Behind Act
designed to improve the academic achievement of disadvantaged student

Chino Valley School District Expected To Send Out Layoff Notices
The layoffs will save the
district about $7 million. Another $2.7 million could be saved if the
board decides to not renew contracts with temporary teachers. The board
in February approved about $14 million in cuts to salaries, services
and programs and is depending on another $12 million in cuts through
union negotiations. About $21 million needs to be cut out of the school
board's three-year budget report before it is sent by March 15 to the
San Bernardino County Superintendent of School...

Huff California Health Care Bill Rejected
Sacramento - Senator Bob Huff
(R - Diamond bar) announced today that SBX8-65, a measure to provide
consumers with more choices for affordable health care coverage was
rejected by the Senate Health Committee on a party line vote. "While

registration for the 2010-2011 school year will begin in late February
and continue in March. Please check with your resident school for exact

On Super Bowl Sunday I
attended the memorial services of a man I had not talked to in 20
years. He was a basketball mentor for me in the 70's, and helped change
my philosophy of the game, influenced my basketball coaching career,
and sparked a love of the game that is still strong. Bill was a college
